The Spectacle-Kentuck Trail extends from the campground along the old Thunder Lake Railroad bed all the way to Kentuck Lake Campground, approximately 2.5 miles away. This campground is located on the east shore of Spectacle Lake in a mixed species forest at an elevation of 1,770 feet. First-come, First-serve sites are available. Vault toilets and drinking water are available throughout the campground. Sites are equipped with tables and fire rings with grills. The campground offers both first-come, first-served campsites as well as sites which can be reserved in advance. The campground offers 34 single family campsites, available for tent or RV camping. This 2.5-mile trail utilizes part of the old Thunder Lake Railroad bed and is a pleasant hike. Come fish for a variety of gamefish species or hike the trail to Kentuck Lake Campground. But golfing on one of the 12 plus courses in the area, biking or hiking on the trails in one of the state parks, and canoeing on the Rum River are terrific outings! Being close to the Spectacle Lake Wildlife Management Area allows the probability of spotting varied and magnificent wildlife.With a 500-foot swim beach and the crystal clear lake, Spectacle Lake Campground is a family favorite. It's a wonderful place to relax and rejuvenate. We really enjoy the solitude and peacefulness. Of course we love the lake and the relaxation and recreation it affords. It's in our blood and we've never been anywhere we like more. It's a family tradition going back to the 1940s. This hard 18.0 mi trail packs the distance in, but the trail is beautiful and the lake will make every step worth it. The aptly named Spectacle Lake is not easy to reach in a day, but it can certainly be done. This is the perfect location for anyone who wants a peaceful and undisturbed getaway. This was the origin of Emma’s Spectacle Lake Home. As the next generation grew, they too bought lots and, in due course, built their own homes. Upon their return the boys began to purchase property on Spectacle Lake.Ĭaptivated by the Lake and wanting to continue the family tradition, Emma secretly saved her money and bought an adjacent lot for her family. All 5 boys fought in World War II and, luckily, all 5 survived. David and Hanna had 7 children 2 girls and 5 sons.
