![]() As God brings down the city that stands against God, the people of God have a protected city. We can see this comparison with verse 12 of chapter 25 and of verse 1 of chapter 26. Our texts speak about the blessing the people have in the city of God, under and in his protection. The end of chapter 25 speaks of how God deals with those around the city of God and fortress of God, that he protects the people by eliminating any threats to the people. The difference between the two praising that is happening in the chapter before this one and our chapter, is the subject of praise. ![]() This song that we have read today expresses the blessing they received in that protection of God, in that salvation that he has given them. We know by looking at the early church that persecution can be a seed to church growth, however in times of peace, in times where one is able to exercise themselves spiritually unto the Lord there is also tremendous growth and development towards the individuals, such is expressed here, they enjoy the feast that the Lord set before them, they enjoy the blessing God has given them, and they don’t hold back in talking about the greatness and awesomeness of God, for they all experience that blessing and they are all are aware of such blessing.Īs they talk about these things that God has done, and the protection he provides for them in destroying the enemies and bringing deliverance, we are also told in our passage, that in that day, the delivered people will also express their thankfulness in song. So much is this a blessing that a banquet of abundance is set before them to come and have fellowship with God ( 25:6-8), and there at the banquet, the people will talk about the mighty work that God had performed in them being delivered ( 25:9-12). For anyone who is a servant of God knows the oppression a wicked society can bring upon them, therefore in God destroying the wicked, in destroying the evil society, he brought a blessing on those who are his. This rejoicing of the working of God doesn’t cease, it flows its chapter 25, the people of God rejoicing not only in the salvation and deliverance God has provided to them in the midst of destruction, but they praise him for bringing down such a wicked city ( 25:1-5). The unique turn in tone, however, is found in the very next verse when voices raise in shouts of joy praising God, and they praise him for bringing deliverance and comfort to his people ( 24:14-23). Within that chapter, we see a class of two different people: the corrupted and wicked society and those who are faithful and devoted to God.Īs God brings judgment upon the deprived society, it speaks of their times of joy, of celebration, and of merry festivals coming to an end because of the devastation they experience ( 24:6-13). For after declaring judgment upon a variety of different nations from chapter 13 to chapter 23, ending with a universal judgment upon all those who are wicked in chapter 24, the tone turns in the middle of chapter 24 in a very unique way. The chapters that lead up to our texts are one of those sections. Their message often followed a general theme and that is one of judgment, however, it must be noted that mixed in those declarations of judgment there was also always a message of hope and one of salvation, but this salvation was reserved for those few that did not apostate from God, those few that are called the remnant. These books are controversial today because the message they proclaimed does not fit into most evangelical circles of prosperity, success, or great fortunes. These men served before the exile of Babylon, during the exile, and after the exile and all acted as a mouthpiece of God to the nation they served and the surrounding nations around them. ![]() The book of Isaiah introduces in the Old Testament the section of books called the prophets. ![]() ![]() The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.” ( Isaiah 26:1-6 ESV) He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust. For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Open the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in. In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks. ![]()
